I choose the Capital Driving School because of the competitive rate, and they were consistently well reviewed when I was researching driving school options online.
I had previously not had a positive experience learning to drive and had put off continuing for five years. Additionally, I have a poor memory and was worried I would not be able to develop the appropriate skills necessary to drive. I found the experience this time around to be carefully tailored to the way I learn and extremely adaptable around my work and personal commitments.
There was never a question of ‘if’ but ‘when’ and I would pass my test and the experience was positive and centred on that ethos. Sean’s approach to driving lessons was always structured. No lesson was random, and was always a part of the wider timetable that we had agreed. His manner was consistently positive, even when I was frustrated at my own inability to master a manoeuvre or remember a process.
Time was never wasted, and Sean was always quick to whittle down problems so they could be worked on and improved. His teaching style was upbeat, logical and focussed on providing the best service to his pupil. Sean Burns and the Capital Driving School provided an excellent service. I sincerely never thought I would be able to drive, and with thanks to Sean I have recently passed my test which was required for a new job.

I choose the Capital Driving School as they did intensive driving courses and this suited me, as I wanted to pass the driving test fairly quickly and since I was a student off for the summer I had enough free time on my hands to do this during daylight hours.
I got the driving schools’ contact details from their website which I found after Googling intensive driving courses and this looked to be the best. The many positive reviews were very encouraging. My instructor Steve was great with helping my manoeuvers along and taught me handy tips that made it easy to remember the procedures. This was definitely helpful and made me feel less nervous when it came to the test. I felt very safe in the car with Steve as I knew that he wouldn’t let me do anything disastrous!
I definitely feel that I have benefited in the long run from Steve’s tuition. Steve was very helpful and gave clear instructions which helped me improve my driving quickly. He was always checking with me to make sure that I fully understood something, otherwise he would go over it again until I did. Like many others, I choose The Capital Driving School based on its excellent online reviews. This is the third driving school I’ve used over the last decade so I expected it to be much like the others. It was, in fact, quite similar – although this time I passed at the end! Steve was certainly the best instructor I’ve ever had. His tuition was comprehensive but focused on the most important elements for real world driving. For example, the emphasis would be on how and when you should change gears rather than the way you hold the gearstick! It sounds like a minor point, but it saves a lot of time and confusion if you’re not forced to unlearn unimportant bad habits that you might have picked up from other instructors. Other than that, Steve was an easy person to spend 20 hours in a car with and I enjoyed his company. I’ve already recommended this driving school to two colleagues that are thinking about learning to drive. They really are straight to the point, and as long as you follow their directions and put the effort in, you stand an excellent chance of passing your test.
From a cost perspective, they are extremely competitive – particularly considering the level of service you receive. One other thing stands out: I wanted to book a block 25 hours but he encouraged me to take 20 as he thought it was more appropriate to my experience. He was right and I passed at the end of the week saving me ~£100. For me, that is almost unbelievable but it really happened. Imagine if all companies were as honest and cared so much about their customers? The customer service was excellent. I have had some bad experiences with other driving schools in Edinburgh refusing to pick me up after work, on the weekend, or from my house. Nothing like that from these guys; couldn’t have wished for more!
